Gilgandra is one of the most interesting towns along the Newell Highway, known as the town of windmills and famous for its Cooee Marchers it becomes a fascinating place to visit. To learn more about the Cooee history, a trip to the historical Hitchen House on Miller St is the ideal place, packed with photos and information you'll be able to truly appreciate the effort and sacrifices made by the Cooee marchers.

Located across from the Cooee Motel is the Cooee Heritage Visitors Centre, named in 2006 as the most outstanding Visitor Centre at the Inland Tourism Awards. Dedicated to exhibiting local arts and crafts, you'll marvel at the high quality of many of the pieces, that may also be purchased.

The Rural Museum also located across from the Cooee Motel is ideal for those interested in Australian history.

Gilgandra Observatory offers you the chance to view the sky as you may never have seen it before, open to the public for the viewing of both day and night skies, you'll also be impressed with the fossil, meter and rock collection
